Homemaker Tip

My last few "Homemaker Tip" posts have been pretty lengthy (and hopefully helpful) so today I want to try something new. I want to hear from YOU! Please share your favorite organizational/decorating tip. Either something you were told about over the years or something you have learned on your own. Don't be shy, PLEASE SHARE! Megan and I like to learn from our readers too:)

I took some lessons from the fly lady (www.flylady.com) and one thing I learned was to keep the kitchen sink clear and dry. When my kitchen sink is clean, well, it's like it rubs off on the rest of my kitchen. It doesn't seem to influence my family room...but oh well. I will share another organizational tip on my blog later today, so that I can give some pictures. It isn't too profound, but I like it!

notice where clutter collects and have a way to contain it. A basket by the back door for the socks and shoes that are removed, or a basket for the things you get out on a daily basis in th eliving room (Bible, pen, notebook, scrap pad, a cute container that houses diapers, wipes and cream in the main living space (who wants to go back to the bedroom everytime, even if it is only 12 steps away?), an organizer for the overwhelming mound of paper clutter in "that one area" of the kitchen counter. Find the hot spots in your house and contain them!

But actually, my favorite homemaking tip that i like to give is this:

Make sure your house is NOT spotless when you invite friends over so that they know you would be ok if you came to their house and found it less than spotless. What a gift that is to a friend!

I posted mine on my blog. It's at the bottom of my most recent post. :)

If you don't want to clean invite someone over. It will motivate you to clean up the basic places...bathroom, kitchen, etc. I agree with Jenne though, I tend to have things look somewhat organized but not spotless. If people see a few crumbs it isn't the end of the world. I just tell guests they don't need to remove there shoes because then they might feel my crumbs!!
